Are Dental X-rays Safe During Pregnancy? 

Generally speaking, dental x-rays are considered safe to receive during pregnancy because levels of radiation that are used are extremely low. However, this does not mean that you cannot be particularly cautious when it comes to exposing yourself to radiation during your pregnancy. If you feel nervous about undergoing an x-ray while pregnant, please do not hesitate to speak with Dr. Slepchik or a team member about what options may be available for you. There are certain situations where dental x-rays may be necessary in order to diagnose a serious problem. 

What About Dental X-rays During Routine Visits?

If you visit our office regularly for cleanings and evaluations and have no immediate dental concerns, our team will often skip a dental x-ray if you are currently pregnant. This is to eliminate any unnecessary radiation when there is no emergency or painful dental problem that needs to be evaluated further with x-ray imaging.
