3 Signs That You Need a New Filling

Having a missing filling is something that can be obvious to some people and not so apparent to others.  On average, a composite filing lasts between 10-15 years . Some filings may last longer than 15 years; you will only need to have it replaced if any of the situations described below occur.

Your Tooth Hurts

Having tooth pain is not  normal— especially if it’s a tooth that has a filling in it. If the pain doesn’t go away within a day or if it seems to get worse,  it may be a sign that you need to get a new filling placed.

You Have a Spot on Your Tooth

The easiest way for you to tell if you have a missing filling is to look at your tooth and see if you see a hole or  spot.  When a filling falls off, it will show the original cavity which is sometimes easy to see. If you do notice that you have a spot on it and it’s been feeling a little uncomfortable, then it’s time to schedule an appointment to repair the tooth.

Tooth Sensitivity

If you are an ice cream lover (and who isn’t?),  and if you experience tooth sensitivity when you bite into ice cream (especially sensitivity around the infected tooth) then that’s also an indicator that you need to have a filling placed on it.
