What to expect with sedation dentistry

Does the thought of going to the dentist make you feel uneasy and anxious? Are you constantly putting off scheduling your necessary dental appointments because of this fear? Don’t worry, you are not alone! Dental anxiety is extremely common in both children and adults, and isn’t something to be embarrassed about. Instead, Dr. Lenny Slepchik and his team strongly encourage patients to book a consultation visit at his practice to learn about sedation dentistry options such as nitrous oxide.

What is nitrous oxide?

Dr. Lenny Slepchik is pleased to provide patients with a way to get into the dental chair and feel relaxed during their entire treatment using  nitrous oxide.  Nitrous oxide is commonly used to calm patients during their treatment. This gas, sometimes referred to by patients as “laughing gas,” can give patients a sense of calm and euphoria during their dental services. Our team administers this odorless, colorless gas through a mask on the nose. Patients breath in through their nose to allow the gas to work its magic, providing almost instantaneous relief. When the procedure is completed, oxygen is administered through the same mask, reversing the effects of nitrous oxide and bringing patients back to their normal state.

What are the benefits of nitrous oxide?

Nitrous oxide:

  • Allows patients to transport themselves to and from the dental office
  • Allow patients to return to home, work, or school immediately following their appointment
  • Does not cause a “hangover” feeling like other sedative methods can
  • Ensures pain-free, comfortable dental work
  • Allows patients to achieve a more relaxed state for their dental services

What procedures can be performed with nitrous oxide?

Our patients use nitrous oxide for all types of appointments, including oral surgeries and simple professional cleanings and examinations. We encourage patients to ask about sedation when they are scheduling their visit with our front office team.
