You may have been told you need to have a denture. Although dentures can help you chew and function like normal again, they also come with a slew of inconveniences like rubbing, chafing, and sometimes they just don’t stay in place. Here at Dr. Lenny Slepchik office, we understand just how annoying having to wear dentures is which is why we offer some of our patients a better option: implant supported dentures. This is not the same thing.

What Are Implant Supported Dentures?

One of the problems with traditional dentures is that they rest on your gums which can lead to gum irritation and chafing. In patients who have good supportive bone health in their jaw, we can surgically implant dental implants for the dentures to rest on; alleviating irritation in the process. Additionally, implant supported dentures are more stable so that your dentures don’t move around.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Implant Supported Dentures ?

One of the drawbacks of implant supported dentures is that they are not for everyone. During your initial consultation with Dr. Slepchik, he will perform a brief evaluation and may even take some x-rays to make sure that your jaw bone is strong enough to support the implants. If your jaw bone isn’t healthy enough, we have other alternatives to ensure that your dentures stay as comfortable and supportive as possible.

Traditional dentures are a good option for individual patients, but if your jaw has the ability to support dental implants as well, then implant supported dentures is usually the best way to go. Depending on the overall health of your mouth and jaw bones, Dr. Slepchik will make a recommendation that will give you the best results and enhance your  life.
