3 Tips to Improve Your Brushing

Even though you can’t go wrong with the basics, Dr. Slepchik has a few tips to help you improve your dental hygiene and fight extra hard against those cavities.

Use a Fluoride Toothpaste

You may not know this, but not all toothpaste are created equal. Make sure that you get a toothpaste that has fluoride in it— even if it’s bubblegum flavor. Fluoride is going to help strengthen your teeth and will help keep them extra protected from cavities or weakened enamel.

Brush for Several Minutes

You may think that if you brush your teeth for a few seconds that you are good to go, but you should be brushing your teeth for several minutes at least twice a day. To make sure that you are getting the most out of your brushing, consider setting a timer on your phone. The first time you use a timer, it may feel like you’re brushing for hours but the more you get used to brushing for longer, the better.  We recommend an electric toothbrush to our patients to get the best result.

Brush In a Circular Motion

For as much as you can, try to brush your teeth in more of a circular motion rather than just side to side. Why? Because a circular motion will help you cover more circumference which means that you will be getting your teeth cleaner. Plus, it usually doesn’t require that much pressure which means that you won’t erode away your enamel from pushing too hard.
